This comprehensive downloadable list includes the topics your child will cover in the Year 6 maths curriculum. The curriculum forms the basis of topics that children will be tested on for their Year 6 SATs tests, which usually take place in May each year.
Our Year 6 Maths Topics list includes the areas of knowledge needed: Number, Arithmetic, Fractions, Decimals, Factors, Multiples and Indices, Percentages, Money, Measure, Algebra, Shape and Space (including perimeter and area), Angles and Handling Data. Each area of knowledge has then been broken down into key ideas that your child should become confident in throughout Year 6.
Key Stage 2 Maths SATs covers papers in Arithmetic and in Mathematical Reasoning. KS2 SATs Maths papers are externally marked. Results from the tests are standardised across England and Wales and each child is given a score and a grade. There are no certificates awarded for SATs and they do not form part of your educational CV, but many schools use KS2 SATs results as a basis for streaming children in Year 7, alongside discussions with your child’s class teacher.
