Our Year 6 Writing Expectations downloadable file lists the standards needed in writing at Year 6. These standards form the marking scheme for your child’s Year 6 SATs in English. Children can be awarded a variety of levels, with Expected Level being the year group average and Greater Depth showing a higher level. Our Year 6 Writing Expectations guides you on what your child should be using, confidently and across a range of writing, to achieve Expected Level and Greater Depth.
Key Stage 2 English SATs covers papers in reading, writing, spelling and grammar. KS2 SATs Writing is internally marked by your child’s teacher. They will look at a number of your child’s writing pieces throughout their time in Year 6. Results from the tests are standardised across England and Wales and each child is given a score and a grade. There are no certificates awarded for SATs and they do not form part of your educational CV, but many schools use KS2 SATs results as a basis for streaming children in Year 7, alongside discussions with your child’s class teacher.
